Battery Storage

Are you tired of being held captive by rising electricity costs?

It’s time to take control and transform the way you power your home. The sun doesn’t shine 24/7, but with battery storage, you can store excess energy generated during the day for use during the night. This means fewer pounds spent on grid electricity, putting money back into your pocket where it belongs. Whether you’re in Uckfield, Heathfield, Hailsham or further afield, we provide trusted battery storage across East Sussex — helping you get the most from your solar setup.

The Benefits of Battery Storage

  • Save Money: Battery storage allows you to store energy generated during off-peak hours and use it when electricity is more expensive to reduce your energy bills.
  • Optimised Energy: Capture the sun’s energy during the day and unleash it when you need it most. It’s like having a personal power reserve that adapts to your lifestyle.
  • Sustainability: Play your part in a Net Zero future by generating and storing your own renewable energy, so you’re less reliant on fossil fuels.
  • Energy Security: With battery storage, you can say goodbye to power cuts and grid dependencies. You’ll have reliable back-up power, so you’re always connected.

Excellent service from Steve Bashford.Went the extra mile for a really old boiler.Much appreciated.Hope you have other engineers who put the customer first without trying to flog new boilers. His attitude was if it ain't broke don't fix it.Love that response & will use them again. No question.

Fantastic service. Steve was able to find the problem with my boiler, ordered a new valve and fixed it. It's an old boiler and I suspect someone less experienced who had not worked on that model before would have given up and told me to get a new boiler. 100% recommended, really happy.

The service I have received from this company has been excellent from start to finish. From Darren, the owner to Alison in the office to the James, the engineer who installed my new boiler, they were all polite, friendly and efficient. I was not the easiest of customers, changing my mind on things and probably being a bit of a pain but Alison couldn't have been more polite and understanding. I would not hesitate in recommending them to my friends and family!

Fantastic company, would highly recommend! After attempting to repair my old boiler and finding it was actually beyond rescue, Village Heating very quickly organised a visit for a quote and then fitting of a brand new boiler within 10 days. Jamie, their engineer, was great, he worked carefully and respectfully in my home and created the neatest pipework I've ever seen! I couldn't believe how much work he did in one day; the electrician was booked ready for the second day and it was all done in no time at all. The ladies in the office were very easy to talk to as well, they actually told me I had an immersion heater, which was great news when I thought I had no hot water!! A new boiler installation can be a daunting prospect, but the team at Village Heating made it easier than I had expected. Thank you!

VH put up our solar panels. Planning, installation and after care was superb. We can thoroughly recommend VH. They even arranged the scaffolding company who were very professional and quick.

Choosing the Right Battery Storage System

Selecting the best battery storage system for your home or business depends on several key factors.

  • Size and Capacity: The size and capacity of a battery determine how much energy it can store and supply. Battery capacity is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh), and the right size depends on your energy consumption, solar panel output, and backup power needs.
  • Lifespan: A battery’s lifespan is typically measured in cycles, which refers to the number of times it can be charged and discharged before its efficiency declines. Most lithium-ion batteries last between 10 to 15 years or around 4,000 to 6,000 cycles.
  • Cost: Battery storage costs vary based on size, technology, and the brand. It’s important to consider more than just the initial price – assess the long-term return on investment too, including energy savings and potential backup power benefits.

Installation and Maintenance

Proper installation is crucial for battery performance and safety. Batteries should be installed by a certified professional to ensure compatibility with your solar system and local electrical regulations. While modern battery systems require minimal maintenance, periodic checks on connections, software updates and ventilation can extend their lifespan. Some batteries come with remote monitoring features, allowing users to track performance and troubleshoot issues through an app.

FAQs

Is it worth getting battery storage without solar?

Yes, in some cases. Battery storage can help you store electricity from the grid when energy prices are lower and use it when rates are higher. If you have access to off-peak tariffs or time-of-use pricing, a battery can save you money. Additionally, if you experience frequent power outages, a battery can provide backup power for your home. However, without solar panels, you won’t be generating free electricity, so the savings might be lower compared to a system with solar.

Is it worth getting battery storage with solar panels?

Yes, battery storage with your solar panel installation increases your energy independence and allows you to use stored solar power when the sun isn’t shining. It helps maximise your self-consumption of solar energy, reducing reliance on the grid and lowering electricity bills.

How long will a 10kW battery last?

The runtime of a 10kW battery depends on your energy consumption. If you use 1kW per hour, the battery will last about 10 hours. If you run high-power appliances like air conditioners or electric heaters, it may last only a few hours. If used for essential loads in the home, such as lights, Wi-Fi or a refrigerator, it could last much longer.

What is the best battery storage for solar panels?

The best battery depends on your needs, budget, and energy usage. If you have solar panels, a lithium-ion battery is likely to be the best choice, while lead acid batteries are more affordable but have a shorter lifespan. You also have the choice of AC or CD batteries – DC is the preferable choice, but AC is easier to integrate into an existing solar panel system. When choosing a battery, it’s important to consider capacity, lifespan, efficiency and warranty.

What happens to solar power when batteries are full?

Once your battery is fully charged, excess solar energy is either sent back to the grid (if your system allows it), used to power appliances in real-time, or stops generating. Some systems allow you to divert excess energy to other uses, like heating water.
